Ying Yu Jade/Calm Spirit July 2012 Newsletter July and Chinese Wellness July is full summer in Chinese medicine. It is the season of the greatest yang. The element, Fire is associated with the Summer season and with heat. Fire is associated with the heart, pericardium, small intestines and related to the tongue. Emotionally, this element is associated with the mind and its stability. The heart is the "seat" of the mind and therefore, its highest expression is love. When imbalanced, we may either lack joy (depression) or have an excess of joy (maniac condition). Fire is symbolic of maximum activity or greatest Yang; nature at its peak of growth, and the motion is upward. Agitation, nervous exhaustion, heartburn and insomnia are other indicators of imbalance in this area. Physically, when the fire element is balanced, the heart properly governs and circulates the blood and insures proper assimilation of the beginning breakdown of food in the small intestines. Emotionally, when the fire element is balanced, sensitivity and expression, true fulfillment and the equilibrium between heart and mind are our greatest rewards. Eating cool finds during summer helps you to keep your balance naturally. Salads, fruits, vegetables help cool and detoxify the body. A favorite Chinese medicine food for summer is watermelon. |

Jade for July If you wear jade to balance your body as seasons change, now is the time to wear your light green jade. The natural Chinese jade bracelets are cool and "watery" and help balance the body. And light green Burmese jadeite bracelets are always classic. If your body is unbalanced due to your heart meridian, red jade will help balance your qi energy. "Hong" and honey color jade is also related to the heart meridian. |

Ying Yu Jade offers summer green jade in smooth Burmese jadeite bangle bracelets, carved jadeite bangle bracelets, and pendants. There are options for ordering pendants if you would like your pendant made into a necklace which will be a unique, one-of-a-kind special piece for you. The Chinese "river jade" has honey and red colors for your heart meridian. Some of the jadeite bangles also have "hong" color veins. A jade tip for summer: don't leave your jade in the heat or direct sunlight. Jade like coolness and moisture. One of the methods for color treating jade is by subjecting it to heat to change the color, so if you want to keep your color natural, don't expose it to heat and sun. I wear a jade bracelet all the time and live in Florida where it's hot and sunny most of the time. I wear my bracelets when I'm outside and in the pool, even the Jacuzzi, and just take care not to let it get hot. Chinese jade is less affected by heat and sun while Burmese jadeite is more sensitive. |
