July 2013 Blog

A customer sent me an email, very upset because the jadeite bangle bracelet she has been looking at for weeks suddently has a "sold" sign on it. And she must have been look at it quite often because I received the email very shortly after it was sold to a first-time customer, and we had just uploaded the page with the link to purchase removed. The past couple of weeks have been quite busy with selling jade bangle bracelets here. There are still several that were sold and haven't been replaced with "new" ones. We still have a substantial stock of jade bangles, but the lower priced ones are very short supply. An associate in China recently sent me some photos of jade carvers using very improved techniques to "make A grade jadeite", meaning it looks good enough to pass as A grade, but isn't. And can be sold for lower prices, some of it isn't even jade, or has only an outer layer of jadeite. Most of our jades were purchased at least 10 years ago when I saw the trend toward higher prices, and more color treating, and spent every extra dollar we earned to purchase the "good stuff". And here for you to purchase, while we still have it. July 27

I have never had a brick-and-mortar store for jade selling, a reason being that I have never lived in an area where there would be enough interest in jade to make it profitable. Central Florida is for Mickey, not jade. But that's probably a good thing. When girlfriends come to the house to get a new jade bangle bracelet, being able to search through the entire collection is overwhelming for them. And we all cringe when after trying on jade bangles and wrists swelling which makes it difficult to really determine size, get them on and off, when jade bangles go "flying" as they get pulled off using the plastic bag method. I used to use the dining room table as my "showroom", but now we sit on an area rug for trying on. If I had a real store, I would probably have a lot of broken jade! I have noticed that in China Towns the jade on shelves is often cracked and shipped from so much handling. And the lighting and dryness in shops is not good for jade, either. I have no regrets that I never had a real store, but I do understand it's challenging making a purchase online. July 21

There's an interesting article about the origins of gold in USA Today, click here to read the article. Gold is the result of the collision of "exotic stars". Astronomers describe this explosion as one of the most violent explosions in the history of earth. And that violence produced the lovely gold we wear today, in wedding rings, special jewelry. It seems to be getting scarce because there is more silver and steel jewelry, but there is an abundance of gold still to be mined. But the price of gold has soared. So gold has become more precious. I touched my earrings while I was reading the article, appreciating the qi energy from them and will enjoy my gold jewelry more now that I read the article. Geologists believe that jade was formed in the sea, which is a much more "yin" experience than yang explosion of neutron stars. The yin of jade, the yang of gold: feng shui for your body. And many jade lovers wear jade as medicine, for health, as well as happiness and luck. July 18

Customers often ask about using jade for feng shui in their home and office. We discuss what they hope to achieve, then of course I get asked: "what exactly is feng shui?" There are books, programs, workshops about feng shui, so I will put it simply: feng shui means wind and water, and it is part of Dao, balancing and harmony in nature, and how you place things in your home, office to balance the flow of energy for happiness, health and good luck (sounds like what jade does for you, right?!) For example, I have a huge jade money toad that took an entire suitcase for me to bring back from China, and it was for starting my jade business and Calm Spirit web site. The money toad is placed so that it faces your office where you work to bring in money, or in your home to the corner where you keep your money-cash-funds. If you place it facing the front door because "it looks nice that way", then money flows out of your house, so you want it always facing in. There are mounds of information about this kind of feng shui using specific "things". But for every day life, what can you do? The other day I was getting ready to do tai chi in near the entrance of the bedroom because it was too noisy to do it outside. As I was getting in position, from the corner of my eye I saw a clothes hanger on a door knob that just didn't seem like it should be there because it was awkward. So I cleaned up some of the clutter. That's getting my feng shui in order. A room that is too cluttered, or has an awkward traffic pattern that "just doesn't feel right" is a signal that the feng shui is wrong. Good feng shui gives a feeling of peace, contentment, well being, comfort. (Sounds like some of the descriptions of jade bangle bracelets, "feng shui for your wrist") And when your room has that feeling, the feng shui is right for you. Jade makes you feel these things, so that's why it's helpful to your over-all feng shui to have some jade in your home. July 12

There have been times when I arrived in China, but my luggage did not! Although I always packed an extra outfit, I often needed to buy clothes until my luggage caught up with me. The listings below are for some of the traditional Chinese clothing I purchased that I have kept, but not worn. The clothing was purchased in Chinese department stores at premium prices during the years of 1999-2004. They are all "gently worn" and in like-new condition. And can be washed by hand. The sizing is "Chinese size" L and XL but fit USA sizes medium, or 8-10. Of course, they are awesome, or I wouldn't have purchased them! I listed some that I didn't wear after I returned home. If you have ever wanted a real and traditional Chinese blouse, and there's even a "phoenix skirt, to wear with your jade, or if you are Chinese and would like a piece of clothing from your home country, now is the time to get one while they last. Several lucky customers snapped up some very good quality jadeite bangle bracelets over the holiday coupon sales, so we will get some new jade bangle bracelets out of storage to get photographed and on the web sites. July is one of the months we sell the most jadeite bangle bracelets. And they are usually the "yin" soft colors or white with cooling qi energy. Most of the jadeite bangles I have are the older ones purchased during 2002-2004, so they are very fine quality, and of course have a higher value. I am still committed to having a price range for all budgets, so will leave the prices of the under $500 on YYJ. And keep a "bargain bangles" and weekly sales on JadeBangleBracelets. Jade bangles need to be on a wrist, not in a box in storage! July 4

What's happening at YYJ and JBB for July: The weekly sale jade bangle bracelets will continued to be listed on the JadeBangleBracelets web site. Check out the great bargains you will get at a discount price, and unlike the YYJ "Daily Special", you have a few days to think about it. And we have just opened a new box of jade bangle bracelets from our storage center that will be listed on both web sites. You can always see what's new on YYJ at this link, click here. Watch for information about "Christmas in July" later this week. There will be several days where you get credit on your purchases good to use during the Christmas in July sale July 25. And of course the Daily Specials, coupons and more! The Red, White and Blue coupon sale continues through July 4, so make your choice, use your coupon soon.
