Ying Yu Jade
Is it jade, or something else?
This is a slab of mawsitsit which is sometimes sold as jadeite. It's a cousin of jade and is a deeper green with more black veins than jadeite. It's often cut into cabachons and made into bangles. It comes from Myanmar and is found in the general area as jadeite. The value is not higher than jadeite, but if you want mawsitsit, then it is valuable to you.
An example of fake jade. Jade is not "swirly" like this. The swirls may have been painted on. If you break this and look at the inside, you won't see the same color as the outside on the inside. The seller states it is natural and genuine jade
These may be jade, but are poorly color enhanced. Notice the swirly pattern, which is not natural. It appears to be jade that has been washed with acid to remove the color and color is probably applied only to the surface. The inside will be quite different than the outside. It it is jade, it would be "C" quality. The seller states that is natural "A" quality Burmese jadeite.
This is not a natural jade color. It is probably not jade at all. However, many people ask for "blue" or deep purple or lavender jade. The seller advertises this as all natural color, and when I asked for confirmation, he told me it was natural color. But it is not.
I preface this by saying that it's very difficult to photography jade accurately. However, even with a poor quality photograph, you should be able to see some of the "spirit", or energy of the jade. This is described by the seller as all natural "A" jadeite with no color treatment. However it IS color enhanced, and a very good job of color enhancement. The color fill is nice and even with some variation to make it look natural. Jade that is this color and natural should show some "glow" of translucence, even if it is a solid opaque color. This jade bangle is listed for less than $15, and that's another clue that it's probably not jade, definitely not natural color.
