Integrative Therapy Program

At The Aliveness Project, we feel that integrative therapies contribute to the total well-being of an individual. We recognize that the mind, spirit and physical natures of the body have an equal role in overall health.

The goal of our Integrative Therapy Program is to provide these therapies to our members at no cost. We provide a clean, comfortable space for our practitioners to work and a setting where our clients can relax and receive the full benefit of these therapies. Acupuncture

Acupuncture may be helpful for withdrawal from addiction (caffeine, cigarettes, alcohol, cocaine, or prescription drugs), stress reduction, post-surgical recovery, chronic fatigue, signs of aging, decreased immunity, menstrual problems, and migraine headaches.
The acupuncturist assesses your health by feeling the pulses at each wrist and observing the color and form of the face, tongue, and body. After palpating the abdomen, information is interpreted in the context of present and past complaints, working and living habits, physical environment, family health history, and emotional life.
During the treatment, thin, sterile, disposable needles (approximately three times the width of a human hair) are inserted at precise acupuncture points. Insertion of the needles goes unnoticed by some, and to others feels like a small pinch followed by a sensation of tingling, numbness, slight ache, traveling warmth, or heaviness.
Sessions usually last about one hour. The first visit usually requires about 90 minutes, including an in-depth health history and treatment time.

Therapeutic Effects: Alleviation of current symptoms and discomforts, immune system enhancement, energy stimulation, balancing and toning. Many people find treatments to be much-needed respites for deep relaxation and meditation.

Shiatsu

Shiatsu is a form of therapeutic bodywork that integrates traditional Oriental medical knowledge and techniques with a modern understanding of anatomy and physiology. Shiatsu literally means finger pressure. Its purpose is to harmonize the body and mind, and to amplify the body’s own natural healing power.
Sessions usually last for one hour and 15 minutes. Wear loose, comfortable clothing (Shiatsu is performed through clothing), and do not eat for at least an hour prior to the session.

Therapeutic Effects: Applying pressure to vital points on the body will help relieve muscle stiffness, stimulate the skin, regulate the nervous system, improve digestion, and help circulate blood, lymph and hormonal secretions. Overall, Shiatsu provides a simple, natural method to stimulate the body’s recuperative power and prevent disease without chemicals or machines.

Healing Touch

This is an energy-based therapeutic approach to healing. It uses touch and works with the energy system to influence physical, emotional, mental and spiritual health and healing. Helps unblock and release blocked energy and emotions to help a person to self-heal. It complements traditional approaches and is non-invasive. It works with the individual’s body and field of energy (chakras, meridians, and auras).
Sessions usually last about one hour.

Therapeutic Effects: Promotes a sense of well being, restores harmony and balances in the individual and in the body’s energy.

Massage

There are a variety of types of massage. Esalen massage is a very relaxing form of massage, which uses long, connecting strokes to soothe and relax the muscles of your body. The massage also may help lower your blood pressure, cleanse toxins from your system, reduce stress, and create an overall feeling of peace and well-being.
An Esalen massage begins with a face and scalp massage, followed by the neck, shoulders, torso, abdomen, arms, legs and feet. Next the back, buttocks, and the back of the legs are massaged. At your request, the pressure of the strokes can be lighter or stronger, depending on your comfort level.
Swedish massage uses rapid forceful motions to release muscular stresses.
Deep Tissue/Trigger Point massage is a more specific, injury-related therapy.
Please arrive 15 minutes early for your first visit, to complete a health evaluation form and discuss areas of your body that may need special attention. The therapist will leave the room, allowing you to remove your clothing and jewelry (including rings and earrings) and get comfortable on the table. The therapist will return to the room and begin the massage.
Sessions usually last about one hour.

Therapeutic Effects: Stress relief, relaxation, lower blood pressure, and toxin cleansing.

Chiropractic adjustment helps restore the normal motion of the joints and soft tissues of the body and helps remove obstacles in the body’s energy flow. Trigger points, reflex points, and acupressure are also used in chiropractic sessions to enhance liver or gall bladder function, lymphatic drainage, lung function, and circulation.
Sessions usually last 10 to 15 minutes.

Therapeutic Effects: Enhanced healing and immune activity, reduction of pain intensity and visceral symptoms, increased ability to handle physical and emotional stress relief, better sleeping and more efficient body functions.

Reiki Healing

Reiki utilizes Life Force energy. During the session, the Reiki practitioner acts as a “conductor” to bring this energy to the client by their hands on the client’s body. The client’s body is capable of utilizing and directing this energy within their body to heal and restore balance.
Sessions usually last about one hour.

Therapeutic Effects: During the session, most clients experience a profound sense of relaxation. Reiki is capable of restoring balance on a physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual level with effects lasting long after the treatment is over.
