Why are jade bangle bracelets so small?
Chinese women used to have very small wrists. Jade bangles were worn mostly by wealthy women who didn't have to work, and therefore were "small" from
their luxurious lifestyle. Jade bangles were often too expensive for women who had to work, or peasants. Then after the Mao era, when they dynasties were
destroyed and communism entered the politics and culture, women worked more, and because of the activity their wrists often were larger.
Communism
