Ten years ago, Chef Mary Dumont was a waitress with little cooking experience at Gabriella Cafe in Santa Cruz, CA, where Outstanding in the Field founder Jim Denevan was Executive Chef. The unlikely story of how she came to cook in some of the most honored kitchens in America, was named one of the best new chefs in America by Food and Wine Magazine and then competed on the 'Iron Chef' TV show is a story she is likely tell at the table. We dine with Skip and Shore of Island Creek Oysters at a coastal location. The very charming Skip and Shore last joined us for our 2007 farm dinner on Nantucket Island.
Outstanding in the Field events feature a leisurely tour of the
hosting farm followed by a five course, farm-style dinner at our long table set in a scenic spot. Dinner is accompanied by a wine paired with each course. Diners are joined at the table by the farmer, food producers, a winemaker and other local artisans associated with the meal.
