This October 3rd, Chef Randy Lewis will gather with area farmers, producers and other artisans of the table at the farm located on the property of his restaurant, La Provence, in Big Branch, just outside New Orleans. This is Outstanding in the Field's second visit to New Orleans, still one of America's culinary and cultural capitals. As in 2006, our farm feast will benefit Parkway Partners, an organization that works to protect and nurture New Orleans green spaces, including replacing street trees uprooted by Hurricane Katrina. A Louisiana native, Chef Randy Lewis recently returned to the South after several years as proprietor of acclaimed restaurants in both San Francisco and Sonoma County. Lewis was named one of the 10 best new chefs in America by Food & Wine Magazine, and recognized by the prestigious Food Arts Magazine as one of five "American Chefs re-defining AmericaÕs regional cuisine of the future".
Outstanding in the Field events feature a leisurely tour of the
hosting farm followed by a five course, farm-style dinner at our long table set in a scenic spot. Dinner is accompanied by a wine paired with each course. Diners are joined at the table by the farmer, food producers, a winemaker and other local artisans associated with the meal.
